BUNCHED PLANTS

Ammania (Ammania gracilis) Red/Pink leaves. Will range in color dependant on nutrient levels. Bright lighting intensify color.

Anacharis (Egeria densa/Elodea densa) An attractive, robust plant. The small leaves are strap-shaped, about 1" long and 1/4" wide.

Ancharis, Najas (Egeria najas) Similar to densa but brighter green with narrower leaves; this is a great substitution for states where densa is prohibited.

Baby Tears (Micranthemum umbrosom) Creeping foreground plant covering the substrate in a carpet of tiny, light green leaves on short running stems. 2-3"

Bacopa, Lemon Bacopa (Bacopa caroliniana) 'Lemon Bacopa' Leaves are succulent and relatively thick. Leaves are almost round and smells like menthol when rubbed.

Bacopa, Variegated (Bacopa lenagera) Stems are more fuzzy than regular bacopa; leaves are thick and succulent with green veins, almost round. 

Cabomba, Fanwort (Cabomba caroliniana) Fanwort - Bright green, feathery, fan-shaped leaves which lie just under the water surface.

Cardamine                           (Cardamine lyrata) Vine-like with trailing growth, has soft, wavy leaves that grow sporadically along stem. Medium to fast growing, needs good light and can grow up to 14" tall.

Glossostigma (Glossostigma elatinoides) Easy growing aquatic groundcover with tiny, tear-drop shaped leaves. Requires good light to thrive. Only grows 2 - 3" tall.

Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) Leaves bright green, stiff, coarse-textured, sessile, in whorls. "Coontail" appearance.

Giant Hygro (Hygrophila corymbosa 'narrow leaf') Long narrow, mostly vertical leaves. Under water the leaves are light-green and dense. An extremely hardy plant.

Hygro, Blue (Hygrophila salcifolia) Plant has narrow, log, pointed leaves on sturdy, stiffly rising stalks.

Lindernia                         (Lindernia rotundifolia) Long-stemmed aquatic with soft, bright green leaves arranged  oppositely along the stem. Fast grower that reproduces via shoots from leaf nodes.

Lloydiella (Lysimachia nummularia sp. Quick growing plant with round leaves that grow on opposite sides of stem. New roots volunteer from leaf nodes. 

Lloydiella, Golden (Creeping Jenny, Golden)    (Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea') This fast growing plant has round, yellow-green to golden leaves on a bright green stem. It propagates via runners and side shoots. 

Ludwigia, Cuba                  (Ludwigia inclinata spec. 'Cuba') Lovely bright green leaves on a dark red stem. Leaf shape ranges from thin and pointed to rounder depending upon light and water conditions.

Ludwigia, Red (Ludwigia repens) Beautiful and easy to grow stem plant. The red leaves are very variable and wide elliptic. 

Ludwigia Ovalis (Ludwigia ovalis) Beautiful pink-orange round leaves.

Ludwigia Peruensis (Ludwigia glandulosa (peruensis) A very attractive plant. Turning a very intense red when given a high light and nutrient rich substrate, turns green in low light.

Mermaid - Sawtooth Hygro (Proserpinaca palustris) Delicate-looking, serrated leaves that are pale pink to copper colored. Requires good light to thrive.

Mint Charlie/Creeping Charlie (Micromeria brownei)   A quick-growing aquatic mint with tiny green, rounded leaves along a hardy stem.

Moneywort (Bacopa monnieri) Water Hysop - Plant has stalks with opposing, oval, sometimes slightly turned-over green leaves.

Myrio, Brown/Green (Myriophyllum sp.)  An exotic bunched plant with fine, feathery leaves that grow symmetrically along the stem.

Nesaea, Golden                   (Nesaea pedicellata 'Golden') Adds great contrast against dark plants with its long, thin golden leaves that grow along a pale hot pink stem. This plant will appear more gold with exposure to light. 

Parrot's Feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum) It is easy to see why this plant is called parrot feather: its delicate, feathery, bright green leaves grow in profusion.

Pennywort, Brazilian (Hydrocotyle leucocephala) Alternate leaves that form along a creeping stem from which its half-dollar sized and shaped leaves appear.

Rotala (Rotala indica) The Latin name means ''the plant with the round leaves''. It forms side shoots willingly, becoming compact and bushy. 

Rotala Wallichii  Fluffy, pink groupings which grow to the water's surface. 

Temple (Hygrophila corymbosa v. N. stricta) New leaves have a reddish tint while mature leaves are primarily green, long and narrow and appear intermittently along the woody stem.

Temple, Scarlet                   (Alternanthera reineckii) Medium to fast grower that reaches most intense color with bright light. Leaves can be pointed or oblong; leaf tops are olive green to brown while undersides are pink to red.

Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis) Leaf appearance is affected by water conditions and maturity; they grow small in cooler water while growing larger and lacy in warmer water.

ANUBIAS

Afzellii (Anubias afzelii) Long, narrow leaves. Will grow to 10-12"

Barteri (Anubias barteri var. barteri) Compact, heart shaped leaves. Leaves: 3-10" long, 2-4" wide. Height in aquarium: 10-18"

Coffeefolia (Anubias barteri var. coffeefolia) New leaves are tannish-brown color which turns dark green with age.

Congensis (Anubias congensis) Grows spear-shaped bright green leaves. 

Frazeri (Anubias frazeri) Lancelet-shaped, emerald-green leaves.

Hastifolia (Anubias hastifolia) Long hearth-shaped leaves, up to 10" long and 3" wide. Height in aquarium: 12-20"

Heterophylla           (Anubias heterophylla) Long oval to lance-shaped leaves with equally long stems. Grows 12-14" tall.

Lanceolata (Anubias heterophylla 'Lancelata') Plant has long-stalked (lance -like) slender leaves.

Minima                      (Anubias minima) New leaves are oval, becoming lance-shaped with age. Grows 10-12" tall.

Nana (Anubias barteri var. nana) A short, bushy compact variety.

Nana, Petite (Anubias barteri var. nana petite) Roundish, dark green leaves on small stems that will grow only to the size of a half-dollar.

APONOGETONS

Boivinianus (Aponogeton boivinianus) The leaves have an attractive indented surface and are a dark, transparent green in colour. It reaches a height of about 18-24"

Capuronii (Aponogeton capuronii) The long slender leaves are deep green, fantastically ruffled, and so stiff to the touch that they may be mistaken for cellophane

Crispus (Aponogeton crispus) The leaves range in color from light green to reddish brown, and have wavy edges. Produces a single spike of white flowers.

Longiplumulosus (Aponogeton longiplumulosus) LLeaves are an olive green-brown, 8 - 14" long and 2.5" wide, with a fluted margin and a petiole up to about 24" long

Madagascar Lace (Aponogeton madagascariensis) Wide, long leaves are missing the tissue in between the veins, giving the appearance of woven green cloth.

Ulvaceous (Aponogeton ulvaceous) Large leaves are translucent, bright green and lightly ruffled.

Undulatus (Aponogeton undulatus (stachysporus)) Hardy and attractive, displaying two different types of foliage and often sending spiked blooms above the waters surface.

Wonder Bulbs (Aponogeton sp.) Brown fuzzy lumps that certainly don’t look much like plants. But, when they are placed in an aquarium, they start to produce leaf shoots within a few days, and before long, they are growing beautifully.

CRYPTOCORYNES

Balansae (Cryptocoryne balansae) Crispy velvet leaves. Tall Crypt with dark green leaves and a wavy leaf texture. 

Blassii                             (Cryptocoryne lucens) Larger crypt that can grow up to 2' tall. Leaves are oval with pointed tips, olive green on top with wine red undersides.

Lucens (Cryptocoryne lucens)  Thick clumping aquarium plant almost grass-like. Great foreground specimen.

Lutea (Cryptocoryne lutea) Deeply green and brown "flamed" with black lines. Wavy margins.

Petchii (Cryptocoryne petchii) Plant has narrow, red-brown, slightly wavy leave, mostly arched downward at the edges.

Pontederifolia (Cryptocoryne pontederifolia) Form slightly pink leaves. Can grow very large. It has horizontal leaves on a long leaf stem.

Retrospiralis (Cryptocoryne retrospiralis) Thick root stock, narrow leaves, dark green with wavy margins. 

Wendtii - Brown            (Cryptocoryne wendtii sp.) Easy crypt with long, pointed leaves. New leaves are green but brown with age. Grows 10-12" tall.

Wendtii - Green (Cryptocoryne wendtii  (Green)) Plant has bright green, brown-stained, pointed leaves that are curled at the edges.

Wendtii de Witt - Red (Cryptocoryne wendtii de witt  (Red))   Reddish brown, slightly hammered leaves.

FERNS

Bolbitis heudelotti (Bolbitis heudelotti) Water fern with very beautiful transparent dark green leaves.

Java Fern (Microsorium pteropus) A hardy plant which could be grown on a root or stone. The black spots under the leaves are reproductive organs.

Java Fern (Windelov) Lacy (Microsorium pteropus v. 'Windelov'  (lace)) Triple-split edges on each leaf, which gives it a beautiful and dense bushy aspect as it grows.

Water Sprite - Indian Fern (Ceratopteris thalictroides) The finely branched leaves are very decorative and provide good contrast to other leaf shapes.

Water Sprite - Lace leaf  (Ceratopteris siliquosa) An easy growing, small aquatic fern with bright green lacey leaves.

NYMPHAEACEAE

Banana plant (Nymphoides aquatica) The Banana Plant has rounded leaves resembling a small water lily that have a cluster of thick banana-shaped roots. 

Dwarf Aquarium Lily (Nymphaea stellata) Relatively small leaves are generally pinkish to red and grow together in a very compact fashion. They are good plants for decorating midground aquarium areas.

Spatterdock, Cape Fear (Nuphar japonica) Bright green, arrowhead shaped leaves. Produces small yellow flowers.

Tiger Lotus (Red/Green) (Nymphaea zenkeri) Known for its brilliant heart-shaped leaves, Its unique and vibrant appearance makes it a popular choice.

SAGITTARIA

Broadleaf (Sagittaria platyphylla) Foreground plant for large aquariums or in the middle of smaller aquariums. It forms a slightly dispersed group with its runners. Good starter plant. 

Dwarf (Sagittaria subulata, dwarf) Small delicate grass that grows fast and will form a carpet in a few weeks. 

Subulata - Narrowleaf (Sagittaria subulata) Foreground plant whose short runners form a compact group.

VALLISNERIA

Contortion - Giant Corkscrew (Vallisneria asiatica) Giant twisted very tightly spiralled, green, straplike leaves, up to 2' long.

Corkscrew (Vallisneria torta) Plant has green, ribbon shaped, twisted leaves which can grow up to 10" high.

Italian (Vallisneria spiralis) Plant has green, ribbon shaped leaves which can grow up to 24" long.

Jungle - large, wide leaf) (Vallisneria sp.) Wide, tall, green, slender leaves. Backdrop for aquariums if planted in groups. 

Jungle, Dark Red (Vallisneria gigantea marmor) Wide, tall, slender maroon red tint leaves. Planted in groups.

SWORDS

Amazon (Echinodorus sp.) Large, beautiful, bright green. It is a hardy and easy solitary plant. 

Chain, Sword (Echinodorus sp.) The smallest species of the Sword family. Grasslike leaves. Will form a thick carpet with its runners.

Grandifolius (Echinodorus grandifolius) Longer stem with round green leaves on ends. 

Kleiner Bar (Echinodorus Kleiner Bar) Forms a compact, average-sized rosette of rusty red to deep dark red round leaves.

Leopard                         (Echinodorus schlueteri) Lovely sword with large, teardrop shaped leaves. Young leaves have distinctive dark spots, hence the name, Grows 10-12" tall.

Melon (Echinodorus osirus) New leaves are an orangey-tan. Not as dark as Kleiner Bar or Indian Red

Oriental (Echinodorus 'Oriental') The unusual transparent pink color of the new leaves makes the plant a specialty.

Ozelot - Green/Red (Echinodorus 'Ozelot') Large, bright spade-shaped leaves with brownish/black spots. Very hardy.

Radican (Echinodorus cordifolius) Young leaves are oval and become heart shaped as they mature. 

Radican, Marble Queen (Echinodorus cordifolius 'Marble Queen') The leaves go from deep green over green to yellowish to produce a marbled leaf surface.

Red Flame (Echinodorus Red Flame) Intense dark red spots on reddish brown leaves. The oldest leaves gradually turn a more mossy, shiny green.

Red Rubin (Echinodorus 'Red Rubin') Long red, brown and green leaves.

Rose                            (Echinodorus "Rose") Lovely sword with new leaves that are pink with red speckles and red veins. Grows 8-11" tall. 

Rosette (Echinodorus parviflorus 'Tropica') Hammered leaves with a small tip. It looks best in small groups.

Ruby -Red Melon (Echinodorus barthii) Leaves change color from dark-red in the youngest leaves to dark-green in the oldest.

Ruffle (Echinodorus martii major) Undulating leaves. Foliage is fresh green but darkens with age.

Uruguayensis (Echinodorus uruguayensis) Long, narrow, green leaves with a fluted margin.

Vesuvius                    (Echinodorus 'Vesuvius') Sword plant that resembles corkscrew vallisneria with long, thin spiral leaves that grow 6-10" tall.

TERRARIUM/BOG

Aluminum Plant (Pilea cadieri) Dark green leaves have silver markings between the veins.

Acorus, Dwarf (Acorus pusillus) This is a smaller version of Acorus gramineus. The leaves are greenin color but the shape is the same. 5-6"

Acorus, Variegated - Japanese Rush (Acorus gramineus variegatus)   Japanese Rush - Grassy leaves of green and cream vertical striping in fans. 8-12"

Arrowhead, Gold Splash, Pink, Plum Splash, White (Syngonium sp.) Leaf size is intermediate and arrow-shaped. Leaf color is a brilliant, almost iridescent, golden yellow with prominent pink-red veins which offers an excellent contrast. 

Brazilian (Spathiphyllum sp.)  These are peace lilies, but the slender foliage is dark green marbled with white.

Dragon's Tongue (Flame) Violet Ivy (Hemigraphis repanda) Violet Ivy - Leaves are narrow satiny purplish green in color with a red underside. Produces small white flower.

Florida Ruffle - Cherry Stem Hedge (Alternanthera ficoidea v. cherry stem)  Slender-leaved plant that doesn't wander, forming a textured mound in shades of deep burgundy. 

Janet Craig - Pineapple Plant (Dracaena compacta)

 

Pineapple Plant - Plant looks like the top of a pineapple plant.

Joseph's Coat - Hedge (Alternanthera ficoidea)  A compact grower with brilliantly colored foliage. Ranges in color from red to green to yellow to orange.

Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon japonica) Slender dark green leaves. They are rigid resemble blades of turf grass. Leaves emerge in clumps.

Mondo Grass, Dwarf (Ophiopogon japonica v. 'Kyoto Dwarf') Smaller version of Mondo.

Palm, Bella (Chamaedorea elegans) Small, graceful palm.

Purple Waffle (Hemigraphis exotica) Waffled, glossy maroon-purple leaves above and wine red beneath. Small white flowers in terminal spikes.

Sanderiana, Green (Dracaena borinquensis) Short green stalks with narrow, green sword-shaped leaves. When pruned is called 'Lucky Bamboo'.

Sanderiana, Variegated (Dracaena sanderiana) Short green stalks with narrow, green and white sword-shaped leaves. When pruned is called 'Lucky Bamboo'.

Bamboo, Curly                 (Dracaena Sp) 'Lucky Bamboo' with curls. Stalk measures 6" tall with an additional 2+ inches of curl, 2+ inches of leaf growth and established roots.

Bamboo, Straight          (Dracaena Sp) 'Lucky Bamboo' in straight form. Stalk measures 8" tall with 2+ inches of leaf growth and established roots.

Sword, Marbled Brazilian   (Spathiphyllum 'Domino') Marbled Brazilian - Similar to the regular Brazilian but the slender foliage is dark green marbled with white.

MISCELLANEOUS PLANTS

Barclaya (Barclaya longifolia)  Distinctive reddish brown plant. Grown from tubers that produce a rosette of leaves. Sensitive to changing water conditions. Sold only as bulbs.

Blyxa Japonica                 (Blyxa Japonica) Slow-growing, soft-leaved grass that only reaches 3-4" in height.

Cardinal Plant (Lobelia cardinalis 'Small form') Mid ground plant. This is the true dwarf version. Leaves are green and red.

Crinum calamistratum (Crinum calamistratum) Beautiful emerald green leaves with tight spiraling waves.

Four Leaf Clover (Marsilea quadrifolia) A nice ground cover. Solid green leaves approximately 2" diameter with four lobes with wavy edges. 5-7"

Four Leaf Clover, Dwarf (Marsilea crenata) A nice ground cover. Variegated green leaves approximately 3/4" diameter with four lobes. 3-4"

Hairgrass, Dwarf (Eleocharis parvula) Rich, green, grasslike plants. Ht 3-4"

Hygrophila 'Compact'         (Hygr. corymbosa v. 'Compacta') Perfect fore to middle-ground plant that only grows 3-4" tall and thick around its center stem.

Micro Sword (Lilaeopsis sp. brasiliensis Grasslike plant. Rich green color. Thicker than hairgrass.

Moss balls (Chladophora aegagropila) Green velvet like algae balls. Slow growing.

Azolla (Azolla caroliniana) Fairy Moss - Green, mossy, fern-like, floating carpet.

Baby Tears (Micranthemum umbrosom) Creeping foreground plant, lushly creating a carpet of tiny, light green leaves on short running stems. 2-3" (PORTION)

Baby Tears, Dwarf       (Hemianthus callitrichoides) Tiny, teardrop leaves on barely visible stems that grow in clusters forming a dense carpet only 1.5-3" tall.

Duckweed (Lemna minor) Very small bright green floating leaves. Rampant grower. Excellent fish food.

Glossostigma (Glossostigma elatinoides) Easy growing aquatic groundcover with tiny, tear-drop shaped leaves. Requires good light to thrive. 

Java Moss (Vesicularia dubyana) This is a creeping plant that grows on rocks, driftwood, etc. It thrives in dim light and likes warm temperatures. 

Riccia (Riccia fluitans) Minute plant with branch-like fingers that entangle themselves, creating a floating mat. (Seasonal)

Salvinia (Salvinia rotundifolia minima) Slow-growing moss with erect evergreen-type leaves that creep along tank bottoms or over rocks/wood.

Willow Moss (Fontinalis antipyretica) Slow-growing moss with erect evergreen-type leaves that creep along tank bottoms or over rocks/wood.
